Any ideas to make a long commute less boring?

My daily commute to work is 1.5 hours each way. Any suggestions on what audiobooks, podcasts, etc I can listen to to make it less boring? Thanks.
I am driving, so I can only pass time by listening to something. Also, “work” is actually a 3-month internship that I worked very hard to get, so I can’t find work closer to home either. Thanks!

Hi, My work location will be Emarat Atrium Building opposite to Safa Park in E11- S.Zyed Road. I would like to know which residential places will be closest to this location so that i can commute daily without spending much money on public transport like taxi till i get my own vehicle.

If you can get me the km , it will be an added advantage. My yearly budget for studio apt would be maximum 30000 AED p.a.
Sharjah is preferred!

I started a job two months ago and the only reason why I took this new job was because my former employer was going to transfer me to an office that was 2 hours away from my house after I filed a sexual harassment complaint. So instead of the harassers being transferred my employer felt it was easier to remove me from the situation which I feel is completely unfair so I hired an attorney who is working on my case. I am very unhappy at this new job it’s not what I want to do with my career, I have a B.A. and feel that I am overqualified to this work but again only took it because I wasn’t going to do a 2hr daily commute without a pay raise or travel reimbursement, plus why should I have to suffer an adverse employment action for being harassed? My new boss can tell something is wrong and has been asking me if I am happy there so I lied and said everything was fine because I don’t want to get fired. I need the money but I’m very depressed about the whole situation. Any advice?

Right, here goes…

I have a part time job while I finish my MA. The pay is really good compared to other part time jobs but they have told me today that it’s being moved to somewhere far away (a daily commute each way of 2 trains and a bus). So, do I quit and try and get a job closer to home (taking into account the Credit crunch) or grin and bear the job and the commute.

Cycling Versus Driving - An Action Research

I am conducting an action research on the feasibility of cycling in parallel to someone else’s driving pattern. The aim of this study is to discover the potential hurdles a person would tackle, when one opts to carry out his daily commute by cycling instead of driving. Seriously, please answer the following questions in as much details as possible.

Demographic

1.Gender? Male / Female

Research Question

(I) Traveling Patterns

1.How far do you drive on a daily basis? Including all errands.
2.What type of route do you usually be keen on? Freeways, highways, local roads, et cetera.
3.What is the farthest trip you have driven by yourself? From where to where?
4.Do you think that I would be able to keep up with you while you drive? Based on your normal driving speed.

(II) Driving Styles

1.Is your vehicle equipped with a manual (stick shift) or automatic transmission?
2.What is your usual acceleration style? For example, do you typically keep a feathery or heavy foot on the gas pedal?

Please could someone help me by telling me how to commute between O’Hare airport and Downtown Chicago.. (preferably close to McCormick Place). I have to stay near the airport so i definitely have to commute from the airport. As the stay is for 2 weeks, a daily cab would just empty my pocket, if you know what i mean.. So please help me .. train or bus is fine.. Thanks in advance..

Kitten7 asked:

Hi, I’m looking at a job transfer to a job in San Jose. I have a basic familiarity with Silicon Valley from business trips out there, but I’m trying to decide where the best place to live would be.

Let me first say that I do have some hesitations about SV in general. I’m not a big fan of urban sprawl, strip malls, McMansions, and “car culture”. I much prefer a denser city that is pedestrian-friendly, living in apartments/condos instead of big houses, etc. I absolutely love San Francisco, but it looks like the daily commute to San Jose would be too tough (over an hour each way).

SO, which community would you recommend….San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Los Gatos, Redwood City, San Mateo, etc?

Also, I’ve just heard that that downtown San Jose (especially the South of First neighborhood) is much cooler than it used to be, and it’s now got nice condos, a nightlife/restaurant scene, a good light rail, etc. Can you give me any tips about it? THANK YOU

Bryan
